Fun with Groundhog Day
January 14, 2008
We have a groundhog in our backyard. He eats all the yellow flowers. Okay, it’s winter so there are no yellow flowers but in fall he certainly feasted on everything yellow. I’m hoping that the reason why he likes yellow flowers is that he likes the sun and is set on getting us an early spring this Groundhog Day.
Whether the little bugger sees his own shadow, I’m a bit of a pessimist when it comes to the weather and, therefore I don’t expect to be rid of the snow till some time in March or April. But I’ll take any opportunity to send out greetings to friends and family near and far. Of course our family and friends in Texas and Florida have no understanding of this Groundhog Day obsession. Too bad for them, they really don’t know what they’re missing.
I’m thinking that my first pick of a Groundhog Day eCard—at least for friends in colder climates—is the Punxsutawney Pummel card, which features a cheeky little groundhog that you get to whack before he sees its own shadow. It gives you an outlet for all of that winter anger, and while the sun may not overcome the winter foe just yet, at least you had some fun with it.
I also like the singing groundhog. Singing eCards are always fun, and when you can make a pun on an old evergreen, it’s even better. Me and My Shadow may sound better when performed by real smooth, lounge room crooner, but this furry little fella has somethin’ about him…
To some, winter is the dead season. It’s a time when you stay indoors and try to avoid the slush, snow, and ice as much as possible. If you know someone like that, they’ll definitely appreciate this interactive eCard: Valley of the Shadow Game. They get to showcase their winter dodging skills, and with a little luck they’ll make it through to an early spring.

And to all of you in warm weather climates: keep your fingers crossed for us, or we’ll come down on spring break and wreak some havoc!
