Memorial Day: Sentimental Memorial Day Ecards
May 12, 2008
One of the most sincere and sorrowful letters concerning the gratitude of our nation for the lives of soldiers fighting for it was quoted word for word in the 1998 movie, Saving Private Ryan:
“Dear Madam: I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant-General of Massachusetts that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle. I feel how weak and fruitless must be any words of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering to you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom. Yours very sincerely and respectfully, Abraham Lincoln.”
This Memorial Day, and every Memorial Day, we remember and thank those who have given their lives so that we may live in freedom. I cannot begin to imagine how hard it must be to lose some one close because of a war effort. I know that there have been millions who have. To all those loved ones of the men and women that have died to save my and the rest of the nation’s freedom, I sincerely say thank you.
This Memorial Day, spread the words honor and thanks to as many people as you can. Sentimental Memorial Day ecards can be a great way to do just that.
As We Remember: This Memorial Day ecard show clips of American life and freedom to beautiful soft music. Memorial Day ecards should encourage people to remember what the fallen were fighting for as we remember them, and give thanks.
Let Freedom Ring: This Memorial Day ecard is one of the best Memorial Day ecards with one of the best Memorial day poems. The poem is sentimental and beautiful just like the music that plays in the background and the images of American beauty displayed through a soaring eagle’s wings.
Shall not Perish: This Memorial Day ecard quotes Abraham’s Lincolns famous words of November 1863. Memorial Day ecards should remind us of every single soldier since the birth of this great nation.
American Freedom: This Memorial Day ecard quotes the words of the great Samuel Francis Smith in “My Country ’tis of thee.”
Freedom, Liberty, Unity: This beautiful Memorial Day ecard displays freedom, liberty, and unity while focusing on one of the most famous and recognized patriotic sayings, the Pledge of Alliegence.
Across our great nation, we will be given the day of Monday, May 6th, Memorial Day, to reflect on what was lost and the price of freedom and liberty. No words would ever do the service of all the fallen men and women justice. For what they did, laying down their lives so that we may live in freedom, should never be taken for granted, and will always be remembered.
Memorial Day ecards can help spread the words of their honor this and every Memorial Day.
